JOINT PROJECT OF KOLKATA POLICE AND THE BENGAL FOR REACHING OUT TO THE SENIOR CITIZENS OF KOLKATA AND ADDRESSING THEIR CONCERNS PERTAINIG TO THEIR SAFETY AND SECURITY, HEALTH, LEGAL MATTERS ETC.
There are approximately 81, 00,000 senior citizens in India and nearly 30% of these senior citizens stay alone. Many Pan India surveys have revealed that a sizeable chunk of this population face serious concerns related to their safety, security, health, legal problems etc..
With the object of attending to the problems stated above “Pronam”, the Joint Initiative of the Kolkata Police and The Bengal an NGO, was launched on 27.06.09- To follow the objectives and in order to stand by beside helpless and depressed senior citizens the Kolkata Police has extended there powerful hand accompanying with the Bengal who has the same philosophy and objectives to protect the senior citizens of the city. The motto of Pronam is providing Medical help, Safety & Security and Psychological wellbeing to the member of Pronam Project. . Total register members of Pronam is 14817 till date.
A permanent office (Senior Citizens Emergency Coordination Control Room), i.e. PRONAM within the campus of Ballygunge Police station is acting from 1st July 2009 Pronam is working for senior citizens with the help Liaison Officers of 64 Police Stations. This 24-hour Help Line is basically for Senior Citizens who are above 65 years of age and staying alone i.e single or couple within the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police. We are providing I.D card to individual Pronam member.
We are providing the following services to Pronam member's i.e :
52 including hospital authorities, nursing homes, diagnostic Centers, Medicine Shops are within the network of Pronam. They are cooperating Pronam for providing Emergency Medical Help, Free Health check up programme, free consultation and awareness programme to Pronam members. Hospital authorities, nursing homes, diagnostic Centers and medicine shops are providing special discount to our member.
We are also providing Safety & Security to our Pronam members. There are a set of Liaison Team comprising of one A.S.I and 1 or 2 Home Guard or Civic Volunteers in 63 Police Stations of Kolkata Police. This Liaison Team visits the residences our members frequently to conduct a security audit as well as to ascertain and solve other problems, if any, faced by our members relating to their health or any other important issues. Uniform Police Officers visit the residence of Pronam member to protect them from the easy attack of criminals and hooligans.
Pronam is also providing legal advice free of cost whether it is criminal or civil through an eminent lawyer who is convener of Pronam Project
Other than this Pronam has arranged various entertaining programmes for the members for their psychological well being such as Picnic, Drama, Cultural programme, sports, walk for any noble cause, writing for Pronam magazine, to watch World Cup Cricket Semifinal and Final etc, Debate Competition, Puja Darshan, Vijaya Sammeloni, Annual Cultural programme, wish them Happy Birthday through S.M.S and over telephone.
We have received overwhelming response from our Senior Citizens. Pronam have changed the mind sets of its members and positive attitude to lead a peaceful secure life. They have participated at total different type of 387 programmes of Pronam and enjoyed a lot.
This Pronam Project has achieved grand success with the direct involvement of The Bengal an N.G.O. and Kolkata Police as a “Protector” of the Senior Citizen of the city. The support that instantly came forward from different Hospitals and Nursing Homes made all the different.
